India’s mobile download speed will get a 5G boost in April this year

As 5G deployment accelerates thanks to Reliance Jio and Airtel, India climbed four places globally in terms of median mobile speeds globally in April, from 64th in March to 60th, a report released on Wednesday said.

Median mobile download speeds in India rose from 33.30 Mbps in March to 36.35 Mbps in April, according to network intelligence and contact information service provider Ookla.

Overall, India improved its global ranking for median fixed broadband speeds, rising from 84th in March to 83rd in April.

The country’s performance on fixed median download speeds increased slightly from 50.71 Mbps in March to 51.12 Mbps in April.

Qatar led the list of global median speeds, while Senegal jumped 16 places worldwide.

In terms of global median fixed speeds, Bahrain recorded the highest increase of 14 places globally, with Singapore retaining the number one spot this month as well.

In January, India ranks 69th globally in terms of median mobile speeds, while in February India was ranked 67th.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm is rolling out 5G fixed wireless (FWA) in partnership with Reliance Jio to serve millions of Indian residents, the chipmaker’s CEO Cristiano Amon has said, as the country doubles down on providing 5G services to all. until the end of the year.

As 5G rolled out in India, the global chipmaker had stepped up its efforts with Reliance Jio to help it quickly connect 100 million homes through 5G FWA, including millimeter wave (mmWave).
